Objectives & Accomplishments

This project seeks to expand the Internet Public Library (now known as ipl2: Information You Can Trust) into a fully featured Virtual Learning Laboratory for Digital Reference.  The IPL Virtual Learning Laboratory will:

  1. develop digital reference curricula and widely disseminate related learning and teaching objects;
  2. design and determine the feasibility of a technological test bed for digital librarianship; and
  3. develop a collaborative online learning community comprised of LIS students, faculty and working librarians to serve as a nationwide digital reference teaching and learning forum.

ipl2 Institute

In support of the above objectives, the research team hosted the ipl2 Institute for the Future of Reference and Its Impact on LIS Education from March 15-16, 2010, at Drexel University. In addition to facilitating extensive conversations about the future of reference and reference education, the Institute also featured presentations from Dr.'s Mick Khoo, Joyce Valenza, Joe Janes, Steven Bell, Lorri Mon, and David Lankes.
